THE TAFL EXPERIENCE

   Aim of The Center

    ·    This centre was established by the University of Alexandria in 1985, in response to the demand put forward by Arabic Departments of European and other International Universities , they send their students to spend one academic year to learn the Arabic language in its natural environment and under the auspices of a University (in the faculty of Arts at Alexandria University) and where the course of study could be counted as one academic year in their Universities.

   ·    Since then, the activity of the centre and its educational programs have flourished; the study schedules and the subjects taught in the centre have developed a great extend.






    Cooperation With Universities All Over The World

  ·     TAFL receives students from all over the world, and has signed co-operation agreements with Universities from Britain. These include Oxford University, London University- SOAS, Manchester, Durham, Salford , and Exeter

   

  ·     Since 2007,Middlebury School of Language opened its Arabic School Abroad at the TAFL Centre Alexandria University. This programme has been growing and the number of Middlebury students at Alexandria has been increasing every semester.

  ·     Similarly, the American Councils through the Flagship program sends its students from the University of Texas, the University of Michigan and the University of Maryland to study Arabic at the TAFL Alexandria. They have an intensive Summer programme as well as attend courses during the academic year.

  ·    The centre receives students from various Universities all over the world and also receives private students on fellowships granted by their Universities, governments, organizations of academic exchange, or from Egyptian government. They all come to study and learn the Arabic language and culture at the TAFL centre. Students come to the TAFL Centre from Sweden, Japan , Germany and the United States of America.



   Goals Reached

      Thus, hundreds of students have graduated from the centre and are dispersed around the world, some of them have reached high positions and some have become famous writers in their countries.  

    Still others became faculty member in many Universities throughout the world. In this regard, the centre has fulfilled a civilized and cultural mission to spread the Arabic language outside its national borders and strengthen the academic relations between Alexandria University and Universities spread all over the world .
